I never understood why we are surrounded by recipes and guides that we can use when faced with a complex job that needs doing. Recipes for meals are of course the classic example, but they appear in so many professions and industries too. Doctors follow Pathways depending on the disease they are trying to treat – helping break down the complexity and standardising how patients are treated based on best practice. The same goes for pilots – they use checklists the whole time to deal with the complexity of what they have to deal with.

So why can you not find recipes in business? There are plenty of tools that help with specific business challenges or processes (tracking sales leads, or project planning), but what is there to help guide people through the tricky ‘business’ situations they face daily? How do you approach turning ideas into business reality? How do you become more customer-centric to generate better ideas for solutions?
